Awareness is Power
As the global population increases, so does the potential for disease.
What's the deal with this blog?
This blog is designed specifically for the spring term theme (of, you guessed it) "Global Problems, Local Solutions" for Ms. Saxe's general biology classes at New Hampton School. This year we are going to focus on turning the phrase "human impact on the environment" from a negative phrase to a positive phrase. Before we do that, we need to learn the basics about ecology and sustainability.
This blog is designed to keep students, tutors and parents informed as to what is going on in class. Students should check this daily for announcements, resources, homework and links to class projects. Homework may be posted here outside of class. But, to be fair, homework that is due the next day will only be posted before 5pm the day before it is due.

Yes, because other people should know what happens in South Africa right now. Also other people should know that HIV and AIDS are not just problems in Africa but whole World.
I would recommend this video to others because it is a first hand account of what really happens, so the footage you see shocks you. You are able to see what is really happening. The video is very informative.
I would recommend this video because it shows not just what is happening in South Africa right now, but the emotions that the people express. It is more believable then hearing it from someone or reading about it.
I would recomend this movie to others because it shows that there are people who are in desperate need of help and attention yet there are some people out there who are taking advantage of them. It also gives an up close look at the devastating affects of HIV and AIDS

I would recommend any video informing viewers of HIV/AIDS, but this one is particularly good because it brings you into peoples homes and lives and allows you to see the hardships that HIV positive people face, especially those in poorer communities with not access to proper health care. The video also shows the political and economic side of the epidemic.

This video is informative of the presidents and governments views but also those of the people living with or without the virus. You get a first hand perspective on what is actually being done by interviewing people who go 3 hours to volunteer.. and what is not being done listening to the president talk about his beliefs that contradict science and how he thinks that HIV does not cause AIDS. I recomend this movie because it gives you insight on what we can do wether its America as a whole trying to persuade the president that hes letting thousands die by his ignorance or spreading awareness and making people get tested. This movie gives us knowledge about the realism of this disease and with knowledge we can fight against it.

I would recommend the movie to someone. It shows the hardships and struggles of people, not just African Americans in South America. People, especially the president of South America, need to realize that this is a much bigger issue than just poverty and malnutrition. They need to see that with the right help and treatment and support, that the awareness of HIV/AIDS could be spread through out Africa and the rest of the world.
i would recommend this movie to people because it lets you know that aids is a huge issue in south Africa. It also make people understand what the people living with aids go threw every day.
I would recommend this video to every one. I gives first hand accounts of what happens. It puts you face to face with the people that have HIV/AIDS. It shows just how devastating it can be.
I would not recommend this movie to people if they are looking for information about HIV and AIDS. This is more of a video to get people upset over one man's political strategy to obtain foreign help rather than a video outlining the specifics of AIDS, if I were to make a documentary on Depression, I would not focus on Tom Cruise and Scientology but instead focus on the people affected. The severity of the disease got lost in the political aspect at points. I believe the film would have had more of an impact if it were filmed closer to the film's demographic (AIDS in America) since Africa is a whole ocean away.
I think it would be good for this video to be shown to all interested. You can learn a lot and it helps people realize the potential problems that HIV/AIDS can cause. It is a pretty big eye opener.
I would recommend it to other people, because it talks about how serious HIV/AIDS and the condition in the south African. Everyone should worry about HIV and AIDS. I think the only bad thing in the vedio is it only talks about the South Africa, it should talk about other country besides south Africa. But I still will recommend it to other people.

I disagree with Matt. Everyone knows AIDS kills you and is not something good. What is the point in focusing on AIDS here when we have the luxury of drugs without even thinking about using them and we are able to live with it. 95% of the world's population infected with AIDS is in South Africa and people say we should focus on HIV in America? Nothing is being done for these people and something should be. They are people too and are in need of our help. I would recommend this movie to anyone.

Yes, I would reccomend this movie. I think it is very informative and personal. It talks about a real global issue that is occuring and there. It gives the opinions and touching life stories of a real issue that we can see happening. It made me want to get right out and help, and I hope it would influence others to help out as well.

I would recommend this movie to anyone that would like to have a greater understanding of people's lives that are infected by HIV & AIDS, also third world country's poverty.
I would like to show this movie to my home friend to know aobut HIV and AIDS because in Korea we donot know any thing about HIV or AIDS. some how I donot like to show to some one how has HIV or AIDS because this movie shows that some people killed by stone because they had HIV so i could be a bad influence.
I think that my family and friends should watch the movie so they can recieve info and be attentive to waht is going on in the world they live in. Maybe even try to do something about it.

yes i would recommend this documentary to other people, beacuse it was differnt from the typical documentary in the sense that it kept your attention, gave you valid facts, and delivered a messege that needs to be spread.

This film only talks about one country with Aids and it dose no necessarily give any ways to help or even ask for help so that the only thing it dose is inform us about a horrible situation we cant effect. Even that being so I would recommend this film because being informed on the worlds issues and knowing about the political misguidance of South Africa is an important step in solving the problem.

Yes, I would recommend this movie because it gave us alot of information about a very serious issue. It is also a very real documentary, which allowed us to see what was really happening.

I would recommend this movie to my friends and family, because this movie shows how things are in South Africa and how the government treats the people within South Africa. This was also a very real and very sad documentary.

I would recommend this movie to anyone and everyone. It's definatly an eye opener for someone like myself who has been stuck in the suburbs all my life. You see the poverty and you see the death. You see the real; it's upfront and blunt. Although I haven't finished the movie, it has already impacted me in a big way. America is not the only country in the world; others are suffering.
I would definitely recommend the movie but i dont think you should force people to watch it, everyone who didnt have to take notes would just sleep through it like for an inconvenient truth. It is important for people to see though because it is much different seeing the suffering people rather than just hearing about them, because it triggers more of an emotional reaction.
I recommend that everyone watches this movie. It is extremely informative and eyeopening. Considering the magnitude of the AIDS problem we are facing, all should have a good knowledge of the topic, and this film gives us a plethora of information we should keep in mind.

I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in the problem of AIDS (or global problems in general), but if people are apathetic to that sort of thing, they probably shouldn't see it, as it would be a waste of their time (which is why it probably wouldn't make much sense to show it at Vespers.)
