5 things i learned from the movie: -TAC the Treatment Action Comittee that are activists helping awareness in South Africa and trying to get affordable drugs for HIV/AIDS. -The TAC brought generic drugs into South Africa and denied patent laws that made this illegal. They brought a generic version of Diflucan. - In 2000 Pfizer agreed to donate Diflucan free for 2 years to South Africa. - You can get such things as an Oportunistic Disease(Pathogen) such as a fungal infection in the mouth/throat where because you have HIV/AIDS your immune system is so weak that your body cannot fight this. -President Mbeki is unwilling to support HIV/AIDS treatments. He believes the durgs are too toxic to give to the people and is hurting them more than helping them. He also signed a monopoly that inflated the price of the drugs 15 times as much as it would cost. He doesnt believe that HIV causes AIDS... his views contradict Science... which he also does not believe in. -Rachel Rollins
1. In South Africa drugs for AIDS are very hard to get because they are so expensive. 2.President Mbeki does not believe that HIV causes AIDS, alot of scientists back. 3.President Mbeki signed an agreement that does not allow genetic drugs of Pfizer to be sold. 4.As a result of the agreement Pfizer has a monopoly and charges way to much for their drugs so they can make a bigger profit. 5.If South Africa is not help with there AIDS problem then more and more people will die.
I would recommend this movie to anyone because it is very informative. It gives you the true story about what is going on in Africa.

As the global population increases, so does the potential for disease.
What's the deal with this blog?
This blog is designed specifically for the spring term theme (of, you guessed it) "Global Problems, Local Solutions" for Ms. Saxe's general biology classes at New Hampton School. This year we are going to focus on turning the phrase "human impact on the environment" from a negative phrase to a positive phrase. Before we do that, we need to learn the basics about ecology and sustainability.
This blog is designed to keep students, tutors and parents informed as to what is going on in class. Students should check this daily for announcements, resources, homework and links to class projects. Homework may be posted here outside of class. But, to be fair, homework that is due the next day will only be posted before 5pm the day before it is due.
If you'd like to see what we did in the fall or winter term check out the blog Biology @ New Hampton
