One thing in this video that related to the video we watch on Aids in south africa was the statement that the planet was trying to get ride of the human problem by giving us Aids and other deadly ocurrances. this to me related the the president of south Afrca's statments about how AIDS was not caused by the HIV virus and other human problems like poverty were realy to blame. In his book Kurt says, "We are all addicts of fossil fuels in a state of denial." This quotation directly goes with our class topic of air pollution from fossil fuels. The people of the United States have been using many fossil fuels their entire life, but as of now never realized how much they are harming the enviornment. This is now an issue, but we deside to point our finger the other way, hoping no one will notice that we ourselves are in a state of denial.

I wasn't sure exactly what the point of this video was besides expressing someone elses thoughts from a book. Not trying to bash anyone I think its good with what this girl is doing by talking about global warming but I didn't feel like I gained anything from it. I think I just need some more backround on this group. But as far as relating to what was said in the video, the fact that planet is trying to get rid of us is an interesting statement.
It actually makes sence with all the bad in this world for something like that to be true.

(137) PEOPLE WITH THEIR EYES CLOSED
I agree with Kurt's irony, that we know what we are doing to Earth. We discuss in class ways to prevent air pollution with fossil fuels and some people around the world are protesting to the senate to make more of a difference. The rest of the world however, know what they are doing and are doing nothing about it, why are they not making a difference. Why do they continue to create more problems? Then it is true what Kurt says, we do not care about earth.

(122) A case of People-Pox
People use a lof of energy, cause a lot of pollution, and killing this plant, but no one care. The human did too many bad things on the earth, so the earth want to get rid of us with AIDS, and the global warming. If we still not care about the global warming and the AIDS, it could be very terrible ending. Just like the AIDS medinice company in African, they make the price too high, so it cause a lof of people die. Both global warming and AIDS will effect every one in the world. It is not too late to stop the AIDS, and global warming. We need to do somethings to stop them.

I thought this was an interesting video. However, it seems as though the man who wrote the book isn't doing anymore than anyone else to solve global problems. He is simply making negative observations. Although what we are doing to Earth is a bad thing, we need to find positive solutions as opposed to complaining about everything that's wrong.

this women stated that guessers dont care about saving lives "what matters to them is being listened to- as, how ever ignorantly, their guessing goes on and on and on.. and if there is anything they hate, it's a wise human. This makes me think of mbeki and his ignorant ideas of HIV not causing AIDS and his resentment toward the TAC group, also the government not supporting money for drugs to the Southern African people for their health.

I agree with Jimmy on this. She definitly expressed her opinion, but she didn't tell us anything she felt, through her own words. All she did was give us someone elses ideas, and say that she agreed with him. But I agree with Kurt Vonnegut, when he talks about "Drunk People." He says, "I know now that there is not a chance in hell of America becoming humane and reasonable." Everyone is after money and power in the US, and the small percentage of people really fighting to keep this country and planet a reasonable/safe place to live, need to step it up.

(71) drunk people - I think what vonnegut said about power is something that is true throughout history. Society will strugle to overcome the desire for power as long as there is an element of haves and have nots. Mike O.

i like what she says about the people who are guessers, dont do it to save lives, but to be heard by others. This relates to what the president of South Africa is doing. He doesnt care about the people of his country, he only cares about being heard and talking, but not do abything. He doesnt want to acknowledge the fact the HIV causes AIDS, and the fact that the drugs prodced can save many peoples lives. But he doesnt care, so all he will do is talk and guess about what he beleives.

"... theres a reason we recognize hamlet as a masterpeice; its that shakespear told us the truth. and people so rarely tell us the truth." that reminded me of how the president was telling his people that hiv didnt cause aid which made some people stop taking medicine

I really wasnt impressed too much with this video.. I also didn't get the point. I did, however, agree with some of the things she brought up. The part about how people don't do thinks to help others, but only to be listened to. people are so self centered and live inside their own little world, they are not focused on what really matters. Also i agreed with the power issue. The more power you give to a person the more corrupt they will become.

(37)People In the Dark
It is President Mbeki who is keeping his people in the dark by not telling him the truth about HIV/AIDS. His is unwilling to acknowledge what top scientists from all around the world have proven true in that HIV causes AIDS. By keeping his people in the dark he is causing them much harm because they trust him and if he says they should not take the medicine then they will not take it.

Kayla (and anyone else who "didn't get the point"): The point of this exercise was for "transfer of knowledge." To challenge you to make connections between what you are learning about in class and an American literary icon, Kurt Vonnegut. So often we (and I say we, because I am guilty of this as well) sit in class and memorize facts for a test. Rarely do we take that knowledge and apply it elsewhere.

Does that help clear it up?

With global warming, we have realized some of the steps that need to be changed. It’s our historians that have changed and influenced the way things are today. We cannot just say what needs to be done, or what could be done. There cannot be no if statements here. We need to realize that we ARE going to do something. It’s important to take action, and not just talk about what we could do about stopping global warming. Our historians have taken action, we can too =)

(71) underscores my views of Mbeki. He was corrupted by power and in his proud corruptness, he rather let his people die than would admit his mistake.
